Other substances such as vitamin E, Se, phytic acid, the mammalian lignan precursors and other phenolic compounds, which are found in whole grains, have shown to reduce the risks of suffering from cancer and heart disease. Also, usual intake of whole grains may prevent you from a premature death or experiencing bowel disorders, colon cancer, strokes, high blood pressure and even obesity.

Regarding bowel disorders, whole grains prevent you from hemorrhoids and constipation. They decrease the time that bowels are in contact with waste products. Moreover, antioxidants strengthen the colon wall and the immune function of the gut. On the other hand, different studies have demonstrated that whole grains have a protective effect against cancer of colon, stomach, rectum, pancreas, ovaries, prostate and endometrium. Concerning the circulatory system, whole grains reduce cholesterol levels, blood coagulation and blood pressure. Therefore, they decrease the chances of stroke or heart disease. In regard to obesity, whole grains have high contents of fiber and complex carbohydrates. That makes you feel full, so that you do not need to eat huge amounts of food to be satisfied.
