California Inter-Scholastic Federation Recommends National Microscope Exchange’s Urine Specific Gravity Refractometer

The California Inter-Scholastic Federation has selected a tool to make sure high school wrestlers are staying properly hydrated. The Uricon-NE refractometer, supplied by National Microscope Exchange is an easy to use instrument that allows coaches a quick way to make sure their athletes are getting enough fluids.

Carnation, WA (PRWEB) November 30, 2005 -- The Model 2722 Uricon-NE refractometer supplied by National Microscope Exchange has been listed as the recommended instrument by the California Inter-Scholastic Federation (CIF) to keep wrestlers in compliance with new weight-management rules. These rules, as approved by the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS), were passed in April 2005 to regulate the hydration of athletes.

The Atago brand Uricon-NE will allow coaches to easily determine if their athletes are in compliance with recommended hydration levels. It reads urine specific gravity immediately on a hand held instrument according to National Microscope Exchange President Rowland Brasch.

“The Uricon-NE is a very simple instrument to use,” said Brasch. “You simply put a few drops of urine on the glass prism, hold it to the light, and read an internal scale which will give you the specific gravity reading number. The number on the scale corresponds to levels of hydration. This is also a very affordable instrument for use with high school wrestling programs.”

National Microscope was noted as the vendor of choice for purchasing this instrument by the CIF Southern Section in their Wrestling Weight Management Equipment recommendations. Refractometers are the standard method of testing for hydration, and can be also be used at the professional and college levels.

“Hand refractometers for testing urine specific gravity, such as the Uricon-NE and the Atago PAL-10S Pocket Digital refractometers, are attractive to users because of their portability, accuracy and ease of use,” said Brasch.
