WeightLossBuddy.com To Supports the "Walk From Obesity Sat., Sept. 24, 2005

WeightLossBuddy.com the fastest growing, free, on-line weight loss community is supporting this Sat. Sept 24, "Walk from Obesity", a 59-city nationwide assault on America's #1 health threat.

(PRWEB) September 21, 2005 -- WeightLossBuddy.com, the free Website that pairs people with Buddies who help them lose weight and keep it off for good, is proud to support the third annual Walk From Obesity.

"Obesity is the fastest-growing cause of death and disease in this country. This year more than 400,000 Americans will lose their lives because of their excess weight. Walk From Obesity provides two ways to help Americans become healthier. First, walking. By engaging in physical activity, every American can become healthier. And second, research. We know that a healthy diet and exercise are two pieces to the puzzle of healthy living, but so are genetics and culture. By increasing our research options, we can use the best available science to help Americans live longer, healthier lives. So get up America, and Walk From Obesity," said VADM Richard H. Carmona, M.D., M.P.H., F.A.C.S. Surgeon General United States Public Health Service.

The Walk
On Sept. 24, 2005, the American Society of Bariatric Surgeons Foundation will hold the third annual nationwide Walk From Obesity --- a fundraiser designed to reduce disability, death and discrimination of people who are obese by educating the public and health-care professionals about effective treatments.

This nationwide non-competitive walk will bring together participants of all ages. Walkers raise money by people to sponsor them. Money also is raised through sponsorship, matching gifts, corporate contributions and other fund-raising activities.

The funds will support the foundation's educational mission by:
• Increasing research funding specifically for severe obesity
• Improving obesity awareness and reducing its associated discrimination
• Increasing public education about this devastating disease
• Increasing professional education concerning effective treatments of the disease

Organization
The Walk From Obesity will raise funds in cities across the United States.

2005 Walk Locations
Fifty nine cities across the United States will host Walk From Obesity events. Walk From Obesity is for everyone; participants can be young or old, active or non-active, thin or obese.
