California Athlete Wins Top World Fitness Award

Fitness professional Sandra Augustin was overall first-place winner of the Women’s Tri-Fitness 2005 World Challenge, July 8-9, in Las Vegas. Women's Tri-Fitness is the Ultimate Fitness Challenge. Sandra also volunteered to personally train 38 athletes to compete in this extreme competition.

(PRWEB) July 22, 2005 -- Fitness professional Sandra Augustin was overall first-place winner of the Women's Tri-Fitness 2005 World Challenge, held July 8-9 in Las Vegas.

The WTF World Challenge consists of four events: grace and physique, obstacle course, fitness routine and fitness skills. Athletes are scored in each event according to their overall placement in the top 20 of all competitors, as well as their ranking in each of 10 different age/height categories. Finally, scores in all four events for all age/height groups are combined to determine the overall winners. The top prize of Overall Tri-Fitness World Champion went to Sandra Augustin.

“Sandra Augustin is an awesome athlete and a tremendous leader”, said Al Rosen, promoter of Women's Tri-Fitness Competitions. “She gathered up 38 athletes from the Sacramento area which led the West to an overall win in the East/West team challenge along with taking the overall title of Women's Tri-fitness World Champion. Sandra, a phenomenal fitness guru overcame the challenge of 182 athletes, representing 41 states, Canada, and Europe.”

It is unprecedented in the history of the competition for one athlete to volunteer her time to train such a large group of competitors. Several of the women placed in overall and individual categories. The men consistently placed in the top five in all their categories.

The first event held on July 8, Grace and Physique, is optional. The athletes appear on stage in two-piece posing suits and are judged on overall physical appearance, poise and presentation, symmetry and proportion.

The next event, held later in the day, was the Obstacle Course. This 150-yard course comprises a 10-foot wall, running grid, incline/decline monkey bars, balance beam, 15-foot cargo net, shuttle run, steeple chase jump, sprint, under bar and over bar and a final dash to the finish line.

On Saturday morning, the athletes participated in the optional Fitness Routine, a two-minute routine performed to music. They are judged on strength moves, flexibility, endurance, choreography and overall performance and presentation. The final event, Fitness Skills, includes the bench press, a box jump and a shuttle run.

“So many people at the competition commented positively on our group; how we worked as a team and took care of and supported one another,” said Mary Kreymborg, who placed third in her individual category in the Grace and Physique and Dual Fitness segments of the event. “Sandra is not only the motivator, but the catalyst that got us all moving and achieving, even while training and preparing herself for competition.”

Sacramentan Izy Eldridge was the real hero of this event. The 29-year-old first-time competitor, who lost 52 pounds in preparation for the event under Sandra's guidance, had the whole crowd chanting, “Izy, Izy…”

Participant Mary Kreymborg said, “There wasn't a dry eye in the house when Izy completed her fitness skills.”

Augustin said, “I am so proud of Izy and the entire amazing group. I had a fantastic time training with them. They all worked so hard, they really pushed me to do my best.” The group will resume their Sunday workouts at a local high school this week, she said. “We have other events that we want to participate in, and I want to encourage more people to come out, have some fun, and in the process get fit.”
